Re: Not true: John V?

It is my understanding that medical researchers constantly spend fortunes testing various drugs and medical treatments to see if they might work. And they know beforehand that many and perhaps most of the drugs and treatments won’t work. So, that money could be regarded by some as being wasted. But, part or most of the time that is not the case. Experiencing failures is part of the normal research process.

That is not being done with earthquake forecasting procedures. The people who should be doing the research keep demanding beforehand that a procedure be a proven success before they take an interest in it.

No exploratory research dollars – No research.

Why is there funding for medical research and not for earthquake forecasting research?

People are constantly becoming ill. And they are constantly putting pressure on their governments and medical groups to take action.

Devastating earthquakes in many countries including the U.S. are rare. And there is no constant pressure to do anything.

Even more important, governments around the world have made and are continuing to make what I feel is an extremely serious mistake. They are entrusting their earthquake forecasting research efforts to segments of the scientific community that don’t know how to deal with controversial subjects and don’t appear to me to even be interested in learning how to deal with them. They don’t have the “Do something. Just don’t sit there and do nothing!” type of disaster mitigation worker personality, experience, and training.

These are personal opinions.
