Thanks for the info EQF. I am too disorganized/busy to deal with another computer. Actually, I have a 6 year-old computer a rarely use. But, I just can't cope. A little related to this is that my main work computer is a laptop that is now 4 years old. It cost me about $1800 (all but one of the computers in my career have been out of my pocket rather than from grants). A student I work with bought a laptop a couple months ago new for $350 that seems as capable (4 gigs RAM) and probably faster than mine.

Speed only matters to me now for seismic reflection processing, which I have not been doing much lately. But, I'm starting to think about the next laptop, and have put $ in a pending proposal to buy one.
