Just in case anyone decides to read this far down the EarthWaves board list: Work on the EPmap program is progressing. We were unable to accurately translate the Etgtab Earth Tide program to TrueBasic for some unknown reason and will just have to use the already compiled version. Perhaps some checking with people in one of the Newgroups might help identify the problem. That could be regarded as a lesson for people creating freeware programs that include the source code: “Keep it simple.” The EPmap program is having some fine tuning work done on the wave generation routines to make it more user friendly. That should be done in a day or two. Roger is going through the output for the many types of waves it will now generate to check their accuracy. Some adjustments will be needed for at least a few of the waves. The plan is that when those two projects are done a download version of EPmap will be created and stored at my Web site. Computers have been around for quite a while. And it is amazing to me that people in the geology community have never created anything like this and made it available to the international scientific community. As I said in another posting, governments really need to put disaster mitigation professionals in charge of their earthquake forecasting programs. Then programs like EPmap would get created. Classically trained scientists simply don’t regard this type of effort as being important. I myself am both a classically trained scientists and a disaster mitigation professional. And I can speak as an expert in both areas.
