The question we've been facing is whether the spike in big earthquakes is a random fluctuation or whether it raises the danger places that have not had a big earthquake recently, like the Pacific Northwest. No one is denying that there has been a spike in the moment release since 2004.

The seismicity around the world yesterday suggests to me that shaking was globally strong, triggering some M5-7 events. But triggered events seem to have the same Gutenberg-Richter relation as normal seismicity, and triggering rate dies away quickly with time. So the impact of triggering on the danger is not great, if it is even noticeable.
