Our World’s Most Important Science Information Project? – December 18, 2011 |
Our World’s Most Important Science Information Project? This is an indirect address for the new Science Information Circulation Nonprofit Foundation related Web page at my new Web site. One of the ultimate goals of that effort is the creation of a nonprofit foundation that would collect, evaluate, prioritize, and then circulate information regarding problems that threaten the health and well-being of people around the world. Ideally, the foundation would have a high immunity to interference from any of the innumerable Special Interest Groups around the world. The importance of such a science information circulation nonprofit foundation can be seen from the following example. If the President of the U.S. wanted to know if earthquakes can be accurately predicted he would likely go to one of his science advisors and inquire about that. His science advisor would probably then contact someone at the USGS and ask for an opinion. That opinion would then most likely be the Politically Correct but highly inaccurate and extremely dangerous view that it is completely impossible to predict earthquakes. So, perhaps the most powerful, or one of the most powerful people on the planet would then have to work with information that was intended to make certain influential segments of the international scientific community comfortable and happy rather than be accurate science information. This proposed new nonprofit foundation would essentially say to those influential members of the science community: “Go peddle your self-serving propaganda somewhere else." Foundation staff members would then be able to provide the President with an accurate picture regarding earthquake forecasting science. As I have said in the past, the segment of the international scientific community that is interfering with efforts to accurately forecast earthquakes largely to make life easier for themselves has been in my opinion at least partly responsible for loss of tremendous numbers of lives over the years. However, those self-proclaimed science authorities are just minor league players in the global disinformation game. Some of the major league players in that disinformation game are the energy company employees, particularly oil company executives, who have for decades been effectively blocking major efforts to develop desperately needed new sources of environmentally safe, affordable energy. Those people are in my opinion at least indirectly responsible for a sizeable percentage of the more than 30,000 or so people around the world who perish every day from hunger and disease. Those hunger and disease problems would be solvable or at least more manageable if our world were not so desperately short of safe, affordable energy. That energy availability problem is likely the main reason that we have had such a prolonged, global recession. And it is constantly and dramatically lowering the standard of living for everyone (except, of course, the energy company executives). These are personal opinions.
