As is often said, we know more about the far side of the moon than the ocean bottom. ("There is no dark side of the moon, really. As a matter of fact, it's all dark.")

But I'm not just thinking about geologic discoveries. I'm also thinking about now drowned archeological sites. Take for instance Beringia, the land bridge across the Bering Straight that man crossed. There are many other 'shallow' waters that likely have treasures to offer as well.

Someday we'll have the ability to do archeological 'digs' in these places. But first, we'll need high resolution mapping of ocean bottom.
