If memory serves me the Loma Prieta quake occured on Oct. 17, 1989. Close. I have a friend who works at Berkeley and at 10:20 AM this morning a bell was sounded for the school's Earthquake preparedness drill. Needless to say, the real quake in the afternoon "shook-up" a few people. After a laugh or two and a sigh that the quake was not worse, the message was loud and clear. Eternal vigilance is the price of saftey of prepardeness is the price of survival.
