In my opinion one of the clearest cases of far-field triggering occurred in 1906.
On August 17 1906 at 00:10 UT a Mw 8.3 earthquake occurred in the Rat Islands,
Aleutians. This was followed 30 minutes later (at 00:40 UT) shortly after the reflected waves
arrived by a Mw 8.5 in Chile. Both earthquakes have been extensively studied
and these magnitudes appear to be correct. These are two of the largest earthquakes
of the last 100 years and occurred 30 minutes apart. It would seem triggering,
either external or from the Rat Islands to Chile (a distance of nearly 14,000 km)
may have been involved. But you be the judge.
