severe magnetic storm just arrived |
The "Kp" index just went to top of scale, "9", which I think is considered a severe magnetic storm...see link. This also happened in the last month or 2. Casual observation over time does not make me think there is any link to earthquakes, but back a decade or so ago here there were lots of posts on that subject. And, in the last 24 hours there seem to be a bit of a concentration of quakes at high northern latitudes...Canada and Alaska. Alaska may always be over-represented in the USGS PDE list because it is a fast-moving subduction zone in the USA, where all quakes of M2.5+ are listed, while for fast moving low latitude subduction zones only the M4.5+ are listed. We'll see what the next 24 hours brings.
