My Forecast: NO Major U.S. West Coast Earthquake In Near Future Posted by EQF on April 5, 2011 EarthWaves visitors are probably used to seeing my notes stating that strong EM Signals were detected at various times and that they were likely pointing to various powerful earthquakes. But site visitors are probably not aware that I also circulate “No Earthquake Likely” advisories when I see some other forecaster predicting an earthquake and I myself am not detecting any EM Signals that would support such a prediction. Two of those No Earthquake Likely advisories were circulated in just the past month. One stated that there would probably not be any strong earthquake activity along the U.S. West Coast during March of 2011 as one group was proposing. Are my No Earthquake Likely advisories taken seriously? Well, when two California professional baseball teams were set to play in the World Series a number of years back, international news service personnel contacted me to get my opinion regarding whether or not the games could be played without being interrupted by an earthquake as they were back in 1989 if I remember correctly. I checked my data and told them to “Play Ball.” That information appeared to to me to have later gone into an international news report. And the World Series games were played without incident. As far as I can presently tell, there are no U.S. West Coast fault zones that are generating any strong EM Signals. And that probably means that there are no catastrophic earthquakes headed for the U.S. West Coast for the foreseeable future. That situation can and has in the past changed in just a day. But, especially strong seismic activity along the U.S. West Coast appears unlikely to me at the moment. My detection limit for a major U.S. West Coast earthquake would probably be somewhere between 5.5 and 6.5 magnitude. I believe that I would almost certainly detect some fairly clear and strong signals for one along the West Coast in the 6.5 magnitude range. These are personal opinions.
