IMO, Simon Winchester is a great author. I too have read Krakatoa -- also read The Map That Changed the World and The Professor and the Madman. His sentence structure is what appeals most to me -- his writing ability is in a class by itself -- along with his asides about the people and places. I look forward to reading his latest book on the Atlantic next. Simon Winchester's books are consistently on best-seller lists -- should be considered a plus for the field of geology. What other author has done more to interest the general populace in reading about rocks and plate tectonics? Barbara
