Quake, Tsunami coverage (a rant) |
OK,...sifting through the Channels this morning. Repeats of the same video (riveting and horrifying, though) and meteorologists trying to explain Tsu (harbor) and nami (wave.) But I digress. MSNBC announces that Cal Tech has assembled a group of experts for a a press conference. Stand by. OK...I do, waiting to hear some good scientific stuff. We have Lucy Jones introducing some fellow who talks for 30 seconds about subduction and calibration (at least I think that's what he said---he wasn't the world's best speaker), etc. About a minute and a half of this press conference, and THEN the beach blonde interrupts to go to yet another "expert" to speculate on what is going to happen to the nuclear power plant. Sheesh. Just when I thought that we might get some decent scientific stuff---here we go with the sky is falling alarmist stuff. OK, yeah, it is a serious thing, but still...it could have waited for five minutes!!! Howling in despair, as usual, over media coverage of scientific issues.
