Under the circumstances (people hitting the site looking for info) you might help by explaining WHY such a quake cannot occur on the San Andreas. We both know that it is not a subduction area, but anyone seeking info is not necessarily going to grasp this, particularly since Mendicino is still part of California. People tend to think of it as a whole state, rather than an area broken up instead by plates and microplates. Also, people are going to wonder why or if the subducting process just vanishes south of Mendicino - asking things like "where did it go?" then there are those who are going to actually wonder about meteors and EQs... I actually had someone - college educated - here in Colorado ask if we're safe here? Another is bound to ask what the meteor connection that you spoke of is and should we be watching the sky. Just a thought, anyway...
