It is the first anniversary of the Haiti quake. It seems things are not going well there. The Cholera does not help. I did not go to AGU meeting in December where there was a special session on Haiti quake, but I work with people who did go. It seems to me there still is not even agreement on what fault broke. I need to see the locations by the French of aftershocks, which are based on Ocean Bottom Seismomoters they put down a month after the quake in Haitian waters, and partly ignore those locations based on seismometers that are not even in Haiti.

Our giant proposal to study the offshore fault and fold system was rejected by NSF a month or 2 ago. One problem is that too many of us donated or partly donated their time to our funded Rapid Response study (I had no salary for 3 months fo my time). So, there were too many of us on the following proposal. We are discussing on how to break our group up onto multiple proposals that is fair to all.

I could write a manuscript based on publicly-available offshore industry seismic reflection data offshore Haiti: the figures are mostly done. But, now that I am getting to 5 months working full time on Turkey manuscript and associated interpretations, I simply don't see how I can put months more time into Haiti. I will have no salary in a few months (funding will be used up, am half time now). They won't fire me at my California university because I work from a home office so take no space. I was funded for work on Ross Sea, related to paleo-climate, and am trying to transition to that this week. I have to resubmit my manuscript on Palos Verdes/Los Angeles area. This stuff has to come before more time on Haiti (although I just committed to a couple more days work on Haiti).
