Re: El Mayor (Baja) quake-triggered in Southern California |
Brian, Yes Hector Mine happened seven years after Landers and yes is seen as a triggered event. That said, here is my opinion. I think the risk level can be divided in 3 areas. !. High risk of 6+ quake somewhere on Elsinore or San Jacinto that would be highest first six months, 2. Medium risk for something next 5 to 8 years, thats where we've transitioned to now, and 3. Minimal risk after that. So yeah I think the highest risk is over, we are now in the medium risk zone for the next few years. Also keep in mind Loma Prieta was proceeded 10 years by dozens of high magnitude nearly 6 quakes in the bay area. I read within the past few years that some think 1971 Simi Valley triggered 94 NOrthridge and if the case we may be entering period of mag 6-7 thrust quakes every 15-20 years in the San Fernando and San Gabriel Valleys. A long time in human years but blink of eye in geologic. Follow Ups: ● Re: El Mayor (Baja) quake-triggered in Southern California - heartland chris 06:31:18 - 10/30/2010 (77698) (0) |
