Projects Update August 27, 2010 In that past few days I finally managed to complete an important earthquake research project that I have been helping a major research group with for most of this year. The effort used up a considerable amount of my time and brain power during 2010. And for me, that second resource is always in short supply. Now that the effort is finished except for perhaps a few future final adjustments, I can get back to spending time on some of these other earthquake research and forecasting and humanitarian efforts. And this proposed bulletin board and an updated version of my Etdprog.exe forecasting computer program are two of those efforts. The updated version of the forecasting program is operational and is being run through some final checks before it is made available for downloads. The most important feature of the bulletin board that simply did not exist anywhere before was created several weeks ago and is running fine at my Web site. Plans are that when all of this is operational, the entire package will provide both professional and amateur earthquake researchers, forecasters, and computer programmers around the world with the opportunity to actually participate in an advanced forecasting research and actual forecasting project themselves. Some could help by generating new program code. Others could help by supplying precursor data for evaluation and display. Others could help by keeping track of new publications etc. by researchers around the world that could be referenced and used by the new system. Earthquake Forecasting Advance A recent discovery regarding the EM Signals that I work with indicate to me that when they are evaluated properly, they might represent the first fairly reliable earthquake precursor that researchers have been looking for during the past few thousand years. Some other precursors such as gravimetric readings, strain monitor readings, Earthquake Cloud observances, and local area EM Signals (mine are global) might be better. But for one reason or another they are not yet being effectively used on a widespread basis.
