It is my personal belief that our planet could easily support many times our present world population except for one problem that is extremely difficult to solve because of the politics of economics. Assuming that officials running a given government are reasonably intelligent, their citizens can usually obtain anything that they need for a comfortable living without too much trouble, food, water, living space. The one vitally important resource that is missing is Energy. If electricity for example were so inexpensive that your monthly bill were just a few dollars no matter how much you used then all of the other necessities of life could be easily obtained. Even if the air were heavily polluted as it is in some countries, people could filter it. But energy is, and often has been the limiting factor in the equation. And that is because of the politics of economics. People who own oil wells don’t appear to me to want their governments to spend their tax dollars on solar energy research etc.
