southern Elsinore |
A while ago I posted that the big cluster of aftershocks at the north end of the Baja rupture stepped west, beyond where the USGS earthuake location map shows the Elsinore fault. The last couple of weeks, including this week, there is a line of seismicity running NNW west of where they show the Elsinore, then it crosses over to the San Jacinto (see link). The jog in the seismicity represents a restraining stepover, which means there is a bit of collision there (compression/contraction). I'm curious whether the Elsinore mapped trace is shown incorrectly (see link), if there is another fault strand, or if the Elsinore dips west. I'm pretty sure that before the quake the southern Elsinore did not have this kind of continuous background seismicity. Follow Ups: ● Re: southern Elsinore - PennyB 11:31:56 - 5/16/2010 (77049) (0) |
