It's such a hard thing the nail down. I'm not sure holding back would help the situation much. Also, it wouldn't matter much until somebody actually seem to be on to something. at that point, a a block of predictors hearing the same "tone" for example could be split up in private to see if there was a connection. Until that point, might as well just put it all out there in the open.
