Interesting. If they have enough along the southern San Andreas report in along with the regular seismometers they may be able to give Los Angeles a 1 minute warning of strong ground motion. This might be enough to do certain things at critical facilities, although I'm not sure what, and it might have to be all automated (open doors at firestations? Stop trains if there were any fast trains, which there are not. Can't really have people trying to evacuate tall buildings with 1 minute, and could be false alarms?).

I have not signed up; not in California except once in a while, don't think my laptop has accelerometer, I shut down my laptop when not in use for >1 hour to save power.
