record low air pressure LAX

Barbara, I may try and answer your question later or maybe I just don't know. There was a record low pressure at LAX this morning and it is now even lower...just above 29". It is well under 29" at Santa Cruz. the previous record at LAX was a week or so after we arrived in Santa Barbara: trees blew down and the waves were big. So, low pressure, heavy rain, big waves (which can be recorded on seismometers); could there be any triggering? I imagine the effect would be tiny although it is mainstream that increasing pore pressure in a fault weakens the fault...by filling a reservoir or raising a water table (possibly). Rather small fluctuations of a reservoir in South Carolina were strongly affecting seismicity back in the 70s or 80s...changes on the order of 1 m. But, the rocks are highly stressed and earthquakes very shallow in that region. Chris
