Several years ago an amateur radio operator contacted us after having set up
his antennae in an unusual fashion. It seems that several days after he rearranged
the antennae, he received a very loud, strange signal from his set-up. He called
here to see if there had been a solar storm or some other phenomena that might
have caused this. We didn't find anything right away. But later that evening the
earthquake listing showed a Ms 7+ earthquake in Ecuador that had occurred
several minutes before the signal was received. I figured the earthquake must
have generated the signal and his unusal antenna arrangement picked it up.
He never reported seeing it again though.
