Re: Earthquake Prediction Registry |
Hi Don: It's those kinds of humble thoughts that are building this thing, and they're much appreciated! Well thats two of you that would like to see active predictions..... what to do what to to .... Granted, liability has never been a problem with any of these EQ boards yet and it's unlikely to become a problem near term. As you recall, Lowell gave me a couple legal references that deal with earthquake mitigation. I did look up both of those references several weeks ago and determined that the government was not the exclusive predictor of earthquakes. They address the governments role in disaster management for the most part. Lets face it, weathermen are doing the same thing. If they predict that a hurricane is going to hit Miami, are they held responsible? Nope. Maybe we could do this. As long as nobody gets really good at prediction, there is no liability problem. If somebody starts hitting at a 75% rate on quality predictions for example, then it becomes a problem for me from a liability standpoint. What I'm trying to do is to set this up for that eventuality, which I think will happen at some point. How about we post real time, but put in a a couple of statements that say: 1. Each prediction is the personal opinion and responsibility of the predictor(s). Hows that?
