Tony, Canie can provide guidance but I have been here a long time and don't consider earth science off topic. The level of posting can be pretty low here, and we aren't making much progress with prediction, so we could use some good science posts. I don't consider climate related stuff off topic either, and various of us post solar stuff. If farther from what people have been posting, you can always post with "O/T" in the subject. That is what we are supposed to do if we post totally non-science stuff.
I doubt you will get carried away with O/T; I was planning to do an O/T post myself.
