The precession of the Earth's axis is about 22,500 years.

Knowledge of the precession of the Equinoxes goes back to at least Hipparchus in about 150 BC.

This just further proves my point that a change in the Earth's axis would not be easy to hide, even from someone without precise optical instruments.
