Heres a good question... |
Hello, Does anybody here on the forum know of a study that has been conducted on tree ring formation or deformity related to large earthquakes? We HAD to cut down a 100 year old Live Oak next to the house for insurance (fire) purposes. I counted rings, and the rings that corespond to 1968 (Borrego Mountain quake) are very deformed. I'll be doing some digital photos of these this weekend when Mike comes up. Just really wondering. Do I have some evidence here? Maybe I could check boles on even older trees. Some of these Oaks out here are 400+ years old, and have died and been cut for fire wood. The rings are easy to see and count. And we can tell wet years from dry years in the record.
