Hello Chris,

In 1968 during the Borrego Mountain quake, I and my step dad could clearly see the effects of the waves in the telephone poles down the valley. This was not an illusion or a mind game. They were going up and down in a sinusoidal pattern, and reacting to up and down, and side to side ground motion. (Love and rayleigh waves?) I think that because the valley we were looking down was a deltaic infill, that the waves were slowed down and magnified---much like a liquefation event. I also think these are very rare events. Something to do with peak ground velocity impacting an area of less mass---that is, lighter material which reacts more slowly to ground body waves. I think we saw the magnification of the ground waves in the telephone poles. 2 Cm on the ground could create a 1/2 meter off set in the poles. That quake was only a 6.5 Mw. Can't imagine when the eight OHHH hits Coachella segment. Yikes..
