I should add that the veracity of the information in the linked article becomes even more suspect when one considers its statement that "During the winter of 1811 and 1812, a series of three earthquakes with magnitudes of around 8 struck the zone . . . ". Current estimates of the magnitudes of those quakes suggest they were in the low M7.0 range - much smaller than M8.
