I'd be interested in the geologic reason for the hot springs. Seems like an unusual spot for hot springs. There are some warm and hot springs west of and north of Santa Barbara, but that is not surprising in an area of uplift and of active faults. In fact, one of the debates, that I think is still ongoing, is why the friction related to motion of the San Andreas fault does not produce a localized heat anomaly. One possibility is that it is a weak (low friction) fault...but that is not a unanimous opinion (Christpher Scholz of Lamont-Doherty, for example, published something a few years ago saying it was strong).
