I did a round of four wheeling today in the back country of Angeles Crest. I have a picture that I'll post and link to. It's of the Los Angeles Basin from Angeles Crest Highway. I could not get over how dramatically flat the LA Basin is, coming out of the mountains along Angeles Crest. (Sorry, I don't know the proper names for these areas.)

Riding around today, I was thinking about how lucky we are to never have had (so far) such a catastrophic quake such as in China.

I'm very interested in the 1812 quakes and the 1857 quake here in Southern California. For a sparsely populated area, they did quite a bit of damage.
