well, guess I lose credibility if I don't admit I am wrong when I am wrong. That result still looks non-intuitive to me, but I googled probability and Wikipedia says:
Probability (P) of one of 2 non-exclusive events occurring is:
(P1+P2)- (P1*P2)
or (.93+.97)-(.93*.97)=.998
