Penny, Your sang-froid is admirable, but after reading your entire post I cannot see anything in it to justify your statement that you find "nothing shocking" in the idea that "there are no strike-slip faults in Central California [the operative statement in Chris' post]. I can name any number of strike-slip faults in Central California! I attempted to explain what I thought Crane might have meant, but those attempts were stretches, and did not remove the mystery surrounding the statement. Your post didn't either.
