Actually, all geologists study geophysics. Many struggle through more advanced math and physics (like moi), but we all had to take it. Also chemistry, biology, botany, etc. Geology is a field that uses all of these. I think that many geologists/geophysicists today are quite adept at both disciplines. Actually, it isn't anything separate because they work together. The use of computers and remote sensing data these days is absolutely stunning, and has removed a some of the emphasis on "real" work. Both are still necessary. The best geophysicist I ever knew used to recognize only 3 types of rock: pink, green and black. Lumpers and splitters....hehehe.
