O/T: life of my father

I was not sure if I should post this but here it is:
My father died after a long illness; see link to obituary. As you will see, he was one of the best senior tennis players in the world. Not mentioned in there is his interest in gold mining: he owned an abandonned mine in the Sierra foohills and was on the board of the 16-to-1 mine in Allegheny during the time when they were finding gold in quartz using metal detectors: they found $1 million in 1 day, and the mine president tended to invite in TV cameras at these times, so this was on the news. The mine has pretty much shut down due to lack of funds these days; a cashier at the gas station/convenience store in North San Juan who lives in Allegeny says they stopped mining a couple months ago, despite the record high prices for gold.

We had a great neighborhood growing up and my father deserves some credit for that because he was so social. It was a bit different back then: we were encouraged to participate in mischief night...the night before Halloween, but only soaping windows, noisemakers, and stuff like that. One night about 2 dozen neighbors including adults came storming down the driveway in the woods to attack our house but my father was on the roof with a hose. Lots of good neighborhood stories after the post-service party from people I have not seen in a long time.
