Also, Wikipedia states: "Mount Shasta {over 14k-feet high]stands some 10,000 feet (3,000 m) above the surrounding area." That puts the 4400-foot contour line only slightly higher than "the surrounding area." I will concede that the quake is interesting, and that it might conceivably be described as being under the extreme outer flank of the volcano.
