There was a M6.6 earthquake beneath the coast of North Island New Zealand. It was soemwhat deep (60 something km) was was normal (stretching). That deep, it may have been in the slab of the subduction zone there....the plate boundary there is a combination of right-lateral and subduction. I was in that area on a field trip once. Chris
