Cathryn, Shan, Shan pretty much included the entire subduction zone from the M9.3 (Dec 2004) through the M8.7 (March 2005) through the recent quakes south of the equator. There have been a lot of M5-6 and 6-7 quakes the last couple of weeks so it would be non-surprising if one of his several Sumatra zones received a 6. There was a M5.9 at 1.7 deg south on Oct 10 at 19:17 UTC. Hmmm.what is the time difference between UTC and Shan's post? If 8 hours and the post time is Pacific, I think Shan's post was before the quake. There was just a 5.7 at 4 deg S. I'd say it was about 50-50 whether Shan will get a 6 between 5 S and 5 N along that subduction zone in a 1 week period. Its highly probable that there will be more 5s. Of interest may be a M5.1 aftershock of the M9.3 at 9.7 N, Nicobar Islands, yesterday (10th). We had earlier discussed whether there was a migration of delayed triggering from the M8.4 of a couple weeks ago.... Chris
