melting ice and quakes |
I have been following ice melt affecting Alaska and have believed for several years that melting would lead to large quakes in the 7-8.5 range. The area north and northeast of Anaktuvuak Pass in my view is a prime area for such a release quake. I will even go so far to say the quake will occur between June and November 2008 and will be around 8.2. As ice melts and water level rises I expect to see an increase the the number of quakes worldwide in areas that are not currently active. Norway is another area I would expect to see some quake events in the next 3 years. Greenland at the current rate of melt will likely become a major point of awe due to quakes, but it still has a lot of melting to do. Yes, I am sure this idea is weird to many, and thats fine.
