It would be definitely a good idea to figure out why the death toll seemed low for a quake that size: obviously the smaller (and more local) tsunami had something to do with this, and newspaper article(s) said that people did head to higher elevation. But, it would also be interesting to look at construction/ground motions: were there few collapses...why?
