As to early spay/neuter - there can be issues down the road - I have never believed in spay/neuter at that age, but do think, cats at least, should be spay/neutered by 8 months or so.. Intact cats are problematic - the males mark territory (and it's not pleasant) and the females can get a uterine infection if NOT bred (which is why this one litter per household, per year is STUPID). You don't run into those kinds of health isues with dogs.
