I've noticed, but haven't completely figured out, that certain symbols being used tend to cause text to drop out of posts here. For instance, In my post above, I used, IIRC, the left and right angle brackets to set off text from Cathryn's post. And both the text and the angle brackets were lost.

Yet Cathryn's post above had angle brackets (used singly, apparently, but alternately left and right ones for different quotes). The single angle brackets showed up on her post. Anybody know what the protocol for setting off text from other posts is here? I seem to recall I even had a problem with quotation marks once.

The missing parts of my post above should be clear, with the possible exception of the Churchill reference. But I think Cathryn will know that referred to the well-known quote regarding mis-placed prepositions.
