I remember this ruse and how hysterical it was at the time. When I used to teach college, all us Ph.D.s used to have to give monthly lunchtime presentations of the research we were working on. Ay, yi, yi. This one guy in the psych departement gave a talk about the semiotics of signs vs. symbols in the post-modern deconstructivism of Lacan and Derrida. I don't think any one of us in the audience understood a single word of it. To this day, I wonder if the presenter, himself, wasn't pulling a good one over on his colleagues, ála Alan Sokal, only a few years earlier. Total bullhockey.
