Well, I suppose it is kind of silly for me to question this work when I don't know what I'm talking about, but it does seem overstated...that is just a gut feeling. We've know for a long time that the Basin and Range (Nevada and parts of a few other states) is high despite having thin crust because it is hot crust. But, almost all mountain ranges have thick crust....so my gut tells me that crustal thickness is generally more important than temperature. Or, maybe a different way to say same thing: temperature may be just as important when it is very much higher, but I'm guessing in continents that crustal thickness varies more than temperature...despite what they are saying...
