It is interesting that there were no larger aftershocks from that quake. You would think at least a 4.5 or something. I am not sure how a lack of larger quakes in the last 20 years would affect the sequence though. Unless they are considering just how locked the Anza Gap is. Another factor would be the 5.1 quake in 2001, which had a much greater sequence than 2005. I studied the number of 3 mags near Anza (20 Km circular) since 1973, and 2001 had the greatest number (16) whereas there were only 6 total for 2005. My guess is that the Anza Gap came closer to full failure in 2001 than in 2005. Ofcourse, this is just conjecture, and I am sure there may be other interpretations. I have a link here to the Broadband Network and a comparison of the two 5 magnitude quakes. You go down the page to "view event maps" and you can see the difference in both sequences. Both events were just a few Km apart. I guess it's evolving! Thanks Again Glen
