I stayed with my brother out in Montebello back in the late 70's while doing contract work down in Orange County. We lived in a 3 story apartment building. We felt even little 2.5's and 3's. That was a bit un-nerving. I have another brother who was in Alhambra for both the Whittier Narrows and Northridge quakes. He still says Whittier was worse. I guess it depends on the focal and exactly where you are. My assumption is that the depth plays a big role in how a quake is felt up there also.
