Yes, DF is the fellow I described as "literate," and I did mean in the first sense you described. Anyone can be a crackpot, and a whole lotta folks on the Usegroups are, but I find the phenomenon more interesting when those strange beliefs are held by somebody who obviously has an education and reads.

I found your contretemps with what's-his-name regarding the prediction contest most amusing! I've visited his website, and found, as others have, that his reasoning and presentation are ridiculously convoluted - and almost certainly wrong. At any rate, he is consistently wide of the mark, and I'm sure that you'd win any contest that could be constructed along rational lines. Good luck on your mission!
