Also we have a booming economy in Asia using more petroleum and food and there is very little land to convert to food production. The U.S. imports much of the fertilizer as it is not a high-end commodity so like white, rice and corn gluten of recent news production has been shipped off shore. As the world changes U.S. ag production could well be at the mercy of other countries not only for oil but also the fertilizers we use to produce food.
