Don't worry about Dennis, he'll be back after he calms down. Your right, a thick skin is needed in this business, no question about it. He's a Marine, so there is no doubt he'll be back. I'm kinda surprised he retreated in the first place.

ME:
Navy has SEALS. Army has Airborne Rangers. Marines...Ever read "See Paris and Die"? A book on Marine Basics at Paris Island. Dennis, if I remember correctly, was an air traffic controller. If that what I remember him telling me years ago, then he had double hazardous duty. ATC'ers are constantly hyped....always buzzed..

Also note that Dennis left s.g.e. a while back and returned. You can bet he will lurk for a bit.... I never leave...but I have asked to leave many places:-) Maybe it was when I went on a jag and posted messages to many newsgroups (96 or so) saying I was adorned by God to predict quakes.... I was quite manic... took a move back west and much therapy! Seriously!
