Using current knowledge you are right where Southern California isn't a subduction area. Northern California is though.

California is basically a bunch of blocks pushed together to form a whole. One block supporting another. What happens when one block gets moved so that it can't support the other block? That's not to say this will happen though.

I'm not sure about Greece being in a subduction area, but there are cases there where the ground has sunk 25ft from one earthquake. They also have villages that are submerged although theories abound on how they got that way.

I don't think the Alexandria area is in a subduction area either.
