Hi Don, as you know, there is no big EQs in Czech Republic. Maximum magnitude is about 5, but we have deep coal mines with the rockbursts occurrence. It is my opportunity for EQ study, because the physics of EQ and induced seismicity is the same, but our energy is collected into the rock mass by mining opperation not by collision of plates. My advantage is high seismicity and fully controlled geomechanical conditions. As you must wait for the "big" one in Parkfield more than 20 years (and more from 1966), I register rockbursts in our mines every year. Our government supported the rockburst prevention and research until 1989. After our revolution the support money decreased up to zero. I must now produce computers to get money for my research. In our Academy is the situation worse because the salary of researchers is less then sallary of my technicians or helpers (it means about 600 USD per month after 10 years of practice).
